Amongst Europe’s large ski areas, the Three Valleys are well known for having a decent lift system and yet the work to update them all and improve the older ones continues.
Construction is underway through the summer so next season skiers in Courchevel can get around that bit quicker and in more comfort. The Grangettes Gondola takes skiers, snowboarders and pedestrians up from the bottom of the Trovets blue run at Courchevel 1550 to the bottom of the Courchevel 1850 village at the meeting point of the lifts heading out up the mountains from there. This is a useful link if you’re exploring the pistes or visiting/staying at Courchevel 1550.
The old gondola was a small 4 seater which struggled to keep up with demand at busy times. The new one is a beauty, the latest from the biggest name in ski lifts, Poma. The model is called the Evo, it seats 10 and has plenty of space to stand up. It has lighting inside and out for evening use and a range of features to make the ride a bit more comfortable.
The new lift travels faster and carries more people per trip so is sure to be great news for all visitors to the resort reducing queues and travel times. This upgrade comes on top of others to the Three Valleys lift system recently including the new Roc de Tougne chairlift in Meribel and the new Ariondaz gondola in Courchevel 1650 which means getting around this giant ski area has never been quicker and more comfortable. We can expect further infrastructure upgrades to Courchevel, Meribel and La Tania in the run up to their hosting of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2023.
